Cees Roorda was born in the Netherlands in 1942. He grew up in the rivers area of the Rhine, Maas and Waal. Already in his early youth he felt drawn to nature, the plants and animals. Drawing and painting became his passion. He was taught and supported by his father, himself a talented artist. After training as an artist he left in the seventies for South Africa and lived there for ten years. Here, he experienced the undisturbed nature, colours and animals, which forced him to express those images on canvas. His first exhibition was held in Johannesburg and there were many more to follow.
Nature is still his source of inspiration after painting and making drawings for twenty years, during those years; he has perfected his technique in a way not to be imitated. Cees loves the small landscape and paints to detail whatever takes place on a square meter. Every painting or aquarelle has been created through sharp observation, subtle use of colours and the desire to finish to highest perfection.
For Cees the brush is the instrument, the colours are the notes and the nature is the feeling. His works have spread over Europe, America and Africa. He has grown to be influential fauna painter and has drawn a large circle of followers of realistic and romantic artists.
